Historic and Beautiful Memphis Homes

Memphis has always been noted for beautiful neighborhoods and particularly for elegant homes and spectacular gardens. Many of these neighborhoods are tree-lined avenues bordered by stately homes. Evergreen is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city with many beautiful homes from the turn of the century. Vollintine-Evergreen is a 1920s era neighborhood with many homes on the National Register of Historic Places. Cooper-Young has quaint, yet historic residential homes. Central Gardens has stately turn-of-the-century homes with the feel of a simpler, more elegant era. In 1983, this area was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is consistently listed in Memphis Magazine's annual survey as the 'Best Neighborhood' in the city. The Chickasaw Gardens area has elegant homes surrounded by a park and a lake. EastParkway has large estates in a cool park-like setting. Ironically, in a city that's not known for preserving its past, most of these Memphis homes are still standing.
