BOS Airport Overview

Boston Logan Airport Guide (8)

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Boston Logan International Airport.

What to Expect

Boston Logan Airport (Code: BOS) has four terminals (A, B, C and E), three connected by walkways and all serviced by regular shuttle transit. The airport is quite large, and there always seems to be ongoing renovation work at one terminal or another. You will find plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes and services on both airside and landside. The free WiFi helps pass the time. The airport says it has installed mobile charging areas in many of its seating areas, but some travellers say it is challenging to find landside. There are several lounges at Boston Logan, many of which offer passes to economy-class passengers willing to pay the entry fee. However, they are not accessible overnight due to security checkpoint closure. For lounge locations and rates, see our Airport Lounges section in the guide below.

Sleeping in Boston Airport

While Logan Airport is open 24 hours per day, travellers cannot wait or sleep airside after security checkpoints have closed for the night. Those passengers who are already airside must go landslide until security reopens and then clear security again to re-enter. Travellers report that the airport is not conducive to sleeping due to limited landside seating (most with armrests), bright lights, constant noise and carpetless floors. During major flight cancellations and weather events, the airport provides cots for stranded passengers, but usage is restricted to these events and finding them may prove difficult. Explore our guide to sleeping in Boston Airport or read traveller reviews for more tips. One hotel at the airport is connected to Terminals A and E, and many nearby hotels are within quick shuttle distance. See Airport Hotels below for locations.

To help us keep this guide up-to-date, you can add or update information or write a review to submit airport tips and photos. You can also visit the airport’s website for current information. For more airport information, continue scrolling down to explore more in our Boston Airport Guide.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security. For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.

Airport Hours

The airport is open 24 hours.

Keep in mind that TSA, airline check-in and baggage drop hours vary according to the flight schedule. The Terminal Security checkpoints are not open 24 hours.
