Free lightweight and 7z support
saidbakrMay 11, 2014
- Pros
- Free and It is 100% free.Light weightIt has 64 bit version
- Cons
- It has no the feature of opening the extracted archive location.
- Summary
- I think it will be perfect zipping software if it would have the option of opening or accessing the extracted archive.
Program is good, interface is terrible
ddelos85November 22, 2013
- Pros
- Program is good when using it from the right click context menu.
- Cons
- If for any reason you need to use the program interface, it's terrible. You will have to navigate to the file manually to extract it.In my case, it's not working with windows 7's context menu which is ridiculous (but probably the fault of Microsoft somewhere).
- Summary
- In short, program functions well from the context menu but that's the only way it's worth using.
Great free zipping program.
jandsm5321September 23, 2013
- Pros
- Fast, 64 bit version even, free
- Cons
- I'd like to see it be able to save and re-run archive settings (like zipping backups of a folder)
- Summary
- I use it because it is completely free.
The only extraction tool I use
Mikeb00September 12, 2012
- Pros
- Simply right click on a zip or other compressed file and ask 7 zip to extract... simple quick and effective.
- Cons
- None. It just works.
- Summary
- Beat winrar hands down and to top it all, it is FREE
Excellent Software, but be smart. It also needs lazors.

- Pros
- Great compaibility for 64-bit OSQuick application and extractionMakes emailing large files a snap!
- Cons
- None, really. Could use lazor beams. They make everything better. It would be nice to have a function that can tell you the future. I'm sad that it doesn't have an app extension that can materialize fresh cookies from my disc drive. Srsly, it's free, so don't complain.
- Summary
- I have used 7-zip for quite some time for extracting RAR files and breaking down large files to send to other people via email. ***This is the 64 bit version meant for a 64 bit Operating System. Before you start hating cause it won't work, make sure you have a 64 bit OS. If you are unsure, use the 32 bit version. Don't be dumb.***This software does exactly what it is supposed to do. It's not fancy, but it is effective. And it's free. Love it. Still, I would like an adapter that turned my web cam into a lazor emitter or something that turned my disc drive into a cookie teleporter. Just sayin'. Seriously, 7-bit devs. Lazors. Think about it.
A Must-have !!!

Be careful where you download from
RSmith12573May 12, 2012
- Pros
- The program is a Swiss Army® knife for file extractors. It can extract all the most common typed of compressed files.
- Cons
- If you are not careful of where you download this from. You could end up with tons of spyware and other useless junk on your System.
- Summary

Works but requires extra steps to use
JayrockwallMarch 14, 2012
- Pros
- 1. Does what it says it will do.2. Free
- Cons
- Takes a few steps to use. First you need to know where the file you want to unzip is located. I had to search for the file. Winzip--which is NOT truly free-- finds the file for you. Y-Zip (64-bit) requires you to find where the file is located. Once you find exactly where the file you want to unzip is located, go back to 7-Zip and find the file. Click the file then 7-Zip does the rest. People who do not understand how to find where their files are located on their computers may have trouble using 7-Zip. That is what all that "GUI" and "Interface" stuff is talking about in other reviews.
- Summary
- 7-Zip unzips files very well and in my case, very quickly using Windows 7. You may have to use some old computer skills or learn some new computer skills to send 7-Zip into action. 7-Zip is not one of those "Plug and Play" software that we are spoiled with these days. You will have to think to use 7-Zip...or just pay $30 to another company so you do not have to think. I gave 7-Zip 5 stars because it did what it was supposed to do, did it well, and did it free. If they charged for it I would downgrade it to 3 stars because of the extra steps I had to take to use it.
